Measuring gutter runs from a roof safely access the roof.
Mark that on the inside edge of the gutter and halve the angle by eye.
However the good news is that it is easy to do and not very tough to get a precise measurement.
This measurement will most likely be anywhere from 4 8 inches depending on the gutter that you are measuring.
Repeat these steps for all runs where your gutters will be placed.
Mark the end of your measurement with chalk.
See photos below most residential gutters will measure approximately 5 inches across the top with the actual opening being approximately 4 5 inches.
Keep in mind that some homes will provide roof access from a window on an upper level.
Eaves or overhangs require additional consideration.
Locate the easiest point to access your roof.
Once you are up on the ladder and looking at the gutter you will use your tape measure to measure across the top of the gutter from the back where the gutter meets the house all the way to the outer edge.
Climb to the base of your roof and use your measuring tape to measure the length of it horizontally.

Carefully climb up the ladder and measure the width of the opening at the top of the gutters.
Seamless gutters are measured in linear feet.
It doesn t matter if you are a degree or so out so long as both angles are cut to match.
Once you get to the other corner of the first side of your home write down the total measurement.
If you must take any measurements from a ladder utilize a light sturdy and easily maneuverable ladder that will safely handle your weight.
Find the width of the gutters.

Gutters typically come in 5 or 6 in 13 or 15 cm sizes and can be k style or half round place a sturdy 20 ft 6 1 m ladder on 1 side of your house so that you can reach the gutters.
Measure your gutter across the top from the back where the gutter meets the home to the outer edge.
Getting new gutters can make you feel relived yet measuring for them can be annoying.
Round the measurement up to the next whole foot.
Many house measurements may be taken from the ground.
Move your ladder to the next section of your home and start the next measurement from your chalk mark.
